Irrigation 101

This morning while I taught class, Jeremy introduced Josiah to his first irrigation experience. I finished teaching just as the water reached our yard, so I snapped some shots of Josiah enjoying the fun. (For those of you who don't know, we have water rights with our property, which means we can flood-irrigate twice a month in the summer and once a month in the winter using water from the Salt River canals. This is wonderful for the health of our plants, and it saves us considerably with water bills!)

When we bought our house almost two years ago, we thought our future children would be thrilled with irrigation. (Jeremy exclaimed several times how much he would have loved this as a boy--and actually, I think he loves it almost as much now!) Well, it's certainly true of Josiah. He splashed and sloshed and plopped in the water, starting near the edge (as you can see from the pictures) but soon venturing out into the full stream!

He got a little scared a couple times when he slipped and sat down hard, splashing himself in the face. But he quickly recovered and squirmed and yelled when I tried to move him away. We gave little muddy buddy a bath when we came in, and he took a long nap today after all the fun!

What a Ham

Look at those curls! I love Josiah's hair. Jeremy thinks it's turning into a mullet in the back and says we should cut it, but I'm holding out. I want to keep those sweet baby curls as long as possible.

I know I've said this many a time before, but Josiah is such a joy. His enthusiasm for the wonders of life--from birds to clocks to dried breadcrumbs on the floor--is fun to see. Nowadays he's feeding himself most finger foods. If he could choose, I think he'd eat bread and beans for every meal. But generally if we're eating something, he wants it, too. He's started to differentiate between food on his tray and food on our plates, and he protests and begs if we have something that looks better.

Grandma and Grandpa Visiting

Josiah's grandma and grandpa have been coming down to Phoenix fairly often these days. I love seeing Josiah interact with them--he especially loves giving cuddles to Grandma! As you can see from the pictures below, he also likes her nose. (He's more interested in body parts these days--especially ears and eyes, which he pokes incessantly.)
