This past weekend we took our first overnight trip to Flagstaff since the girls were born. The weather was beautiful, the grandparents had fun adventures planned, the kids traveled well and slept well overall--what more could we ask?
On Saturday morning we went to the county fairgrounds where a horse competition was being held. Josiah loved climbing up the log jumps on the cross-country course.

Jer's mom has been exercising a lady's horses, and she took us to see them and feed them some carrots after we watched a bit of the competiton at the fairgrounds. Josiah was very excited to feed horsies carrots, but he got a little nervous around these very large animals. He opted to have Grandma feed the horses; he just watched. I imagine the picture below illustrates a bit of what Josiah saw and feared . . . especially after this horse sneezed loudly and scared Josiah into staying in Grandma's arms.
Grandma introduced Josiah to Cowboy, the brown-and-white horse below. Josiah kept saying "Cowboy! Cowboy!" and then "hat on!" He knows cowboys wear hats (Grandma gave him a cowboy hat for his birthday, which he wears when riding his rocking horse), and it took him awhile to understand that the horse's name was "Cowboy." Once he got it, he mainly talked about that horse. (He brings it up here at home now, too. "Hit Cowboy!" he says. When I tell him we shouldn't hit the horse, he says, "Pet him! Feed him!")
Later on Saturday we visited a playground near the Pioneer Museum. Grandma and Pa thought Josiah would enjoy seeing the real train out front, and he certainly did!
Family picture on an old tractor--yes, Josiah is crying. He wanted to drive rather than look at the camera, and he didn't want everyone on the tractor with him.
