Presents for the Birthday Girls

Here's another birthday post--this one on presents! Josiah felt the horrible injustice of practically everyone (his sisters, Uncle Justin, and Mama) getting presents except him, and he let all of us know how upset he was about this. As luck would have it, the girls weren't really that interested in opening their presents (see the faces below, especially Lydia's in the second picture), so Big Brother ended up opening several. He tried to claim some of the presents as his, too--and even today referred to one of their presents as "'Siah's bear." (He really believes that pretty much everything should be his. At mealtimes, when one of us takes something from a serving bowl or plate on the table, he often calls out, "Don't take all my _________ [bread, apples, soup, sour cream, avocado, etc.--even things he doesn't particularly like]!" Usually he has plenty of this item on his plate at the time, and the probability of him needing more from the serving bowl is typically pretty low. But he's still concerned about anyone else touching it!)

Anyway, back to the birthday girls. Presents weren't much of a hit this birthday. They were more interested in climbing on the little rocking chair at Pa and Grandma's, and they were intent on preventing the other sister from claiming or sharing it. They ripped a little piece of paper here or there, and they poked the eyes of the new baby-dolls Grandma gave them. Some of the other things held their attention briefly. But they were getting tired and just weren't all that into it. Oh well.

"Hug" for Daddy--the girls do a sweet little "aww" noise and lay their head down on us when we ask for hugs or kisses

Josiah commandeered a doll--he, too, was fascinated with the eyes that opened and shut

I made little Waldorf-type dolls for the girls--here's Abby with hers
