Aunt Bobo with Bud the day before the doctor's appointment--the day she left
Jeremy took Josiah to the doctor for his three-year check-up last week. Poor Bud has a deep-seated fear of the doctor's, mostly because of shots. We told him Thursday morning that after breakfast he would go with Daddy, and most of breakfast he alternated between crying, eating bites of oatmeal, and protesting that he didn't want to go to the doctor: "No doctor, Mama! I don't wanna go to doctor! No shots! No band-aid!"
Here's Josiah of the long hair
He'd been asking for a haircut for a while (only because it meant I'd let him watch some Pink Panther cartoons while I cut it)
We promised him a doughnut on the drive home, which distracted him for a moment as he tried to decide ahead of time what type he'd pick. But then he was back to trying to convince us to nix the appointment.
Well, he went and survived--and came home with a doughnut with chocolate frosting and SPRINKLES! He devoured it promptly and showed me his Spiderman band-aid. He's not familiar with Spiderman and his likes, and he asked me, "He's a bad animal, Mama? He not happy?"
Haircut results
But onto the stats I wanted to remember: Josiah perhaps takes after his mother's side (at least at this point) in his stature. He's solid--34.6 lbs (78th percentile)--and average in height--37.4 inches (50th percentile). At his two-year check-up he was 28.6 lbs (59th percentile) and 34.6 in. (67th percentile). Maybe he's readying for a growth spurt?
He's got a good eye and a solid hit--and doesn't need the tee anymore!
Jeremy asked about his bow-leggedness, and the PA said it was normal at this age (all kids are born flat-footed, which often manifests in bow-leggedness). He should grow out of it. She didn't hear a heart murmur (last year she still could), so we were happy about that. She was pleased with his normalcy in meeting developmental milestones. I know he's not exceptional linguistically, but she said he was right on track with his speaking abilities. Apparently strangers should be able to understand about 50% of what a three-year-old child says.
He loves to play baseball with Daddy
Josiah is mostly speaking in full sentences (though he skips words here and there sometimes), is adding new words to his vocabulary regularly, clearly understands all we discuss with him, asks lots of questions, loves to read books, still tries daredevil antics outside and in, enjoys wrestling and tackling and chasing his sisters, can be the sweetest boy ever if he so desires, is potty trained (woohoo?), is trying to make friends at our new church (and is a bit mystified at kids' meanness), remains friendly and outgoing, can count to ten (though doesn't always do so sequentially), has a loud and contagious laugh, loves
Shawn the Sheep, identifies ocotillo plants on every bike ride, works with Dad to keep bad cats off our property, digs in mud regularly . . . he's a handful and a lot of fun to have in our family.
His favorite color is green . . .
I think he'll be ready for the Big Game this summer at Lorien!
