We did get to spend a lovely weekend with Pa and Grandma in Flagstaff back in September, though--we all enjoyed the time with them and the beauty of skies, breeze, mountains, and trees!

Dortha and I took the kids on a walk in the nearby forest the Saturday morning we were there. (Jeremy and his dad went off for some sort of hunting preparation.) Clara was so excited to wear her pink coat. She was not excited about walking very far on her own, or about siblings trying to get a nice, smiley picture with her . . .
Back at Pa and Grandma's house, the kids helped Grandma water her plants. Clara was in her element.
Lydia was the main helper
Abby enjoyed water play while Josiah pined for the kids next door--he always wants new friends!
Lydia commented contemplatively, "It's a good day to sit on a rock and toot!"
How'd she get so big and cute?!
Later that evening, Pa took us all on a hike near some fun caves and boulders. We even came upon a rope swing, which we couldn't just pass by without a try. Josiah was really reticent to give it a go, but after watching his sisters and some egging on from Pa and Daddy, he did swing--and, of course, had fun. Clara couldn't let the big kids have all the fun and wanted a turn, too. She wasn't as thrilled with it but liked sitting there and feeling like a big kid as long as Pa or Daddy held onto her.

After Pa did this, everyone else wanted to try it this way, too!

Balancing skills!
Bouldering!
Though it's hard to tell from the pictures, the kids climbed up quite a large boulder from the backside and then figured out how to slide down the front. They so enjoyed making the circuit up into the cave, over a ledge, onto the tree branch, and then up onto the big boulder. Clara did it, too (with a little help)!

What fun to spend a day with Grandma and Pa!
