What do strep throat and the Phoenix zoo have in common? Well, I don't really know. The second weekend in January, we just decided to hop on over to the zoo to "celebrate" Josiah's fourth round of antibiotics for strep. Once you've dealt with strep this many times in about as many months, you gotta just keep living . . .
Actually, this time around, we caught the strep early enough that he only had one truly bad day of lying on the couch (Thursday the 8th). The antibiotics kicked in pretty quickly, and he was back at regular activities (i.e., riding his bike around the yard like a maniac) the next day--though he was definitely crankier than usual and took a nap.
On that Saturday we thought he'd be up to a couple hours at the zoo in the morning. Everyone enjoyed the outing.

She had to have a zoo map because 'Siah had one

The "warty pigs" are fascinating!

The girls loved the chance to walk rather than ride in their stroller--and protested loudly when we buckled them back in for longer stretches.
As usual, the petting "zoo" (only goats) was the biggest hit of the day--at least for Josiah and Lydia. Abby was frightened of the goats and only tentatively touched them, with Daddy's encouragement (and while sitting on Daddy's lap).
Josiah and Lydia thought it was funny that the goats gnawed on logs

See her face?
She didn't even want to look at the goat when it came too close

In the farm section, the zoo has a cow statue with a milking apparatus that squirts water. Josiah tried it out . . .

What would any walk be without picking up a stick?
