Lydia's Lego

Lydia loves to build with Duplo. She still surprises me by disappearing into the living room by herself to work on a new project. She especially likes to build layers of bricks onto a platform, meticulously placing each one (mostly singles) in place till the whole thing is several layers deep. Sometimes she adds guys on top.

More recently she built a Duplo house--complete with walls and a little inner section for a guy! Daddy helped her with the roof.

Of course, with a big brother around, she also likes to make swords and guns. A couple weeks ago she came 'round the corner into the kitchen with this:

"Appoo dun," she told me. ("Apple gun.") Perhaps you can see the apple brick there in the middle of the tall stack?

Josiah devised the original "apple gun"--a similar-looking structure as a base with the apple brick at top and a Duplo fire hose coming out the top to "shoot" apples into our mouths. (Don't worry, he always assures us that he took the seeds out first.)

Lydia was pretty proud of herself for making her own apple gun.

It's fun to see her imitate her brother, and it's fun to see her creativity, planning, and construction abilities blossom!
