Seven Months Old!

I say this regularly and will surely say it plenty in the future: Wow, does time fly! These girls are over half a year old now (seven months yesterday, to be exact). They're not such little babes anymore, as they're lengthening out, eating like champs, army crawling, getting into trouble, watching everything Big Brother does, and interacting more and more with each other and with us. But I'm treasuring this time of babyhood, too, knowing that too soon they'll be toddlers too busy for kisses atop their sweet, fuzzy heads.

What a joy it is to have happy babies. Unless they're very tired or hungry, Lydia and Abby are ready with their smiles and laughter. The other night Josiah kept them entertained by throwing pillows at Daddy. They'd laugh and laugh at this apparently hilarious antic! They love to be tickled and to play peek-a-boo. Jer puts washclothes over their heads after dinner and they pull them off, over and over, enjoying the game every single time.

The girls love to see each other. Often when I put one to bed or get her up first, she likes to smile at her sister in the other crib. While they typically don't like to be left alone to play, they're usually content for quite some time if Sister is playing on the floor, too. When seated together as in these pictures, they can't keep their hands to themselves--they love to take swipes at each other, pull on ears, hold hands, grab the other's clothes, etc.

Lydia pontificating

Lydia is the girl with the tongue. She has it out more than in when she's happy and smiling! Lydia uses a wider range of babbling "talk" than Abby, and just in the last week she has started to imitate us in saying "dadada" when we say it to her. Abby is the mover of the two. She's perfected her army crawl: she can swiftly pull and propell herself across the room to get what she wants (usually this is a toy of Josiah's, a stray letter, or some other non-baby-toy). While Abby can obtain at will, Lydia is better at taking whatever Abby has. The other day they sat together on the floor while we skyped with my parents. Lydia repeatedly took Abby's measuring spoon. I could see her eagle eye watching for an opportunity to snatch it every time Abby waved it near her.

What a lot of fun they have with each other--already!

This is how they like to experience life--with their mouths open.
