For several years now we've played a big baseball game one evening at Lorien. This began as a means of humoring Geno, who's been an avid baseball fan from much too young an age. But as you can see from the pictures below, most everyone enjoys turning out for the game! Josiah can't wait till he can join the bigger kids and take a swing at the ball. He practiced on the sidelines much of the evening.

Josiah wanted to join the bigger kids in almost every activity. He's quite a social little guy, and as he watched the little cohort of girls (my cousins' kids) play at the beach, playground, tennis courts, etc., he desperately wanted to be included. They were justifiably wary of his potential to destroy their sand creations and other set-ups, but Josiah keenly felt the sting of rejection. Thankfully my cousin Brendan's daughter Lucy took pity on Josiah and befriended him. She's seven, and he adored her. I think she enjoyed the adoration, and she took charge of him nicely. One day she told me, "He's fascinated by me." She was kind enough to include him in games on and off throughout the week.
